A mass shooting rocked the remote town of Tumbler Ridge, Canada, on Tuesday after a gunman opened fire inside a high school and later at a nearby home.
The authorities confirmed the death of nine people: seven on the educational campus and two more in a residence. In addition, at least 27 injured people are reported, two of them in serious condition, who are receiving specialized medical care.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that the alleged attacker was found dead with a self-inflicted wound. Although versions about the identity of the attacker circulated on social networks, the authorities have not confirmed official data in this regard.
Given the magnitude of the emergency, the local health center activated Code Orange to deal with the massive arrival of patients, and asked the population to postpone non-urgent consultations.
The emergency alert was lifted hours later, when it was confirmed that there were no suspects at large and that the area was considered safe. Around 100 people were evacuated from the school, while all educational institutions in the town will remain closed for the rest of the week, with psychological support available for students, teachers and affected families.
