Incredible record!: Spanish startup makes video call with more than 1,700 accumulated years

Some time ago, in EL ESPAÑOL we learned of the existence of Maximiliana, a startup originally from Aragonwhich created an eponymous mobile device designed to simplify the process of making video calls for seniors.

It was precisely this startupled by the Aragonese Jorge, Pedro and Maximiliana herself, who gives the company its name, who organized the longest-running video call on the planet, with 17 centenarians participating.

What began as a tribute to Spain’s centenaries ended with a massive group video call where the combined age was 1,757 years, with an average of 103 years per participant.

The oldest video call in the world

In a statement, Maximiliana explained that initially, the intention was to pay a deep tribute to the centenaries of Spainpeople who have lived a century or more.

This achievement, increasingly feasible thanks to technological and medical advances, represents a true milestone that Maximiliana wanted to celebrate in our country.

The result was much more significant than Maximiliana could have anticipated: 17 participants in a group video call, adding a total of 1,757 years of age, which makes it the oldest video call in the world.

Each of the participants, with an average age of 103, came from different regions of Spain. During the video call, each centenarian introduced themselves, mentioning their exact age and place of residence.

To give us an idea of ​​the scope of this event, Maximiliana pointed out that the youngest member of this group was 100 years old, being María Paquita from Catalonia. Sister Rosario, from Cantabria, was 111 years old.

In the latter case, we speak of the third oldest person in all of Spain present on the call. Each of the centenarians received from their families a commemorative plaque with their name inscribed to celebrate this event.

Jorge Terreu, founder and grandson of the namesake Maximiliana who inspired the name of the startuprecited the poem Hands with Historyby Gervasio Melgar, to highlight “the life and efforts of our elders.”

Organizing this video call was not an easy task. Each of the centenarians received a Maximiliana mobile phone to facilitate their connection, making this meeting possible.

Maximiliana gained media attention not only for her innovative proposal to ‘facilitate’ access to video calls for the elderly, but also for the interesting story behind the startup Aragonese.

It was the brainchild of Terreu, who was studying in France and was facing difficulties keeping in touch with Maximiliana (born in 1931), which motivated him to look for a solution.

Two years after its creation, the startup Maximiliana has sold more than 1,000 cell phones in Spain, Europe and Latin America, always with an eye toward the future and the development of a variety of products beyond phones.
