X’s Dark Mode transformed for an absurd reason: Learn to recover the original design

Historically, Twitter’s dark mode was characterized by a dark blue backgroundan aesthetic that was maintained even after the social network was acquired by tycoon Elon Musk.

However, in recent days, the official X website has implemented a new dark mode that opts for a completely black backgrounda change that has not been liked by many users.

For many, this new design of X It is more aggressive for the eyes, especially for those with astigmatism or other visual conditions, as white letters may appear with a glowing “halo” effect around them.

This phenomenon occurs in high-contrast settings like this one, with white letters on a black background; On the contrary, the light mode, which presents black letters on a white background, is more friendly for reading.

Therefore, users now face two unfavorable options: damaging their eyesight with light mode due to the intense brightness of the white background, or doing so with dark mode when trying to distinguish letters on the dark background.

Until recently, the middle option was the blue theme, but this has been completely removed from X, and the reason is baffling. According to statements from X’s own product manager, Nikita Bier, the company “does not have the capacity to support more than two colors”.

In fact, according to this confession from the executive, X is in such a limited situation that it cannot offer more than two color options to its users; It seems like a comment that could very well be a joke, but it is reality.

The most absurd thing is that this explanation makes no sense. X already had three different themes previously, the work had already been done; In fact, it probably cost more to get rid of the blue than to maintain it. This argument would only be valid if X had to develop a new theme from scratch.

The black X theme was originally introduced for the mobile version of the appwhere it is more suitable given that most new smartphones use OLED and AMOLED displays, which consume less battery and offer superior contrast in a “real” dark mode.

However, OLED screens still do not completely dominate in the field of computers, where their benefits are not as evident, and therefore the dark mode with a blue tone was still preferred by these users.

The good news is that It is possible to recover the blue version of X’s dark mode very easily; In fact, it’s so easy that it begs the question why Elon Musk’s company can’t do the same.

The trick is to use the Control Panel for Twitter extension, which has included a new function that allows us to revert to the previous dark mode instead of the new one.

Once the extension is installed, we simply have to click on its button and in the “X Fixes” section, select the “Clear Night” option in “Dark Mode Theme”.
